Home Meet the Team

The Student Leadership & Involvement team is here to help student navigate leadership and involvement opportunities on campus, while empowering students to reach their full potential. Some members of the team serve as advisors to ASUU Student Leaders, some are focused on serving the Recognized Student Organization community, and some are dedicated to growing leadership development programs. The entire team works together to provide a holistic experience for students engaging with leadership and involvement at the University of Utah.

Erica serves as the Director for Student Leadership & Involvement. She supervises seven professional staff members, advises student leaders, and facilitates leadership development opportunities for students and engagement with student organizations and the campus community. Before starting in our office, she worked for Housing & Residential Education, ASUU (at the University of Utah), and in events management. Erica has a passion for student persistence and the role engagement plays within that process. Erica holds a Master's of Education from the University of Utah in the department of Education, Leadership & Policy, a BA in Communications, and BS in Environmental Studies. In her free time Erica enjoys reading, working out, and exploring the great outdoors through camping, climbing, hiking and skiing.

Jessica is the Associate Director for Student Leadership & Involvement and works directly with ASUU’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Marketing Board, and Student Resources Board. Additionally, Jessica is responsible for organizing, directing, and maintaining the day-to-day operations of marketing, technology, student organization management and office operations. Jessica earned her Master of Arts in Adult and Higher Education from Morehead State University and her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Morehead State University. Jessica is originally from Kentucky and is an avid equestrian who enjoys spending time exploring the outdoors.

Marissa is the ASUU Programming Advisor, serving the Campus Events Board, Sustainability Board, Diversity Board, Government Relations Board, and Student Immersion and Outreach. Marissa earned her Master of Education from The University of Utah in the department of Educational Leadership and Policy and earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication from Weber State University. In her free time Marissa enjoys spending time with her cat Lucy, watching basketball, and listening to music.

Associate Director for Budget & Finance
Michelle is the Associate Director for Budget & Finance and works directly with the Finance Board and Student Resources Board. Michelle is responsible for managing ASUU finances and advising students on budget forecasts, revenue and expenditures, and fiscal responsibility. Michelle has a background in healthcare, higher education, and finances and earned her Doctorate and Bachelor's degree in Nursing from the University of California, Irvine. Michelle is originally from Los Angeles and spends her free time playing sports, cooking and baking, knitting, and playing music.

Katie earned her Master of Arts in General Psychology from California State University, Stanislaus and her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Brigham Young University Idaho. She is originally from California and enjoys hiking, crafting, and hosting murder mystery parties in her free time.

Alejandro is a Senior that is currently pursuing a dual degree in Political Science and International Studies with an emphasis on Foreign Relations. He was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela and his native language is Spanish. Alejandro has been involved in several leadership roles since he was a Freshman, starting with the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU), Union Programming Council (UPC), Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute, and also completed a Hinckley Internship in Washington D.C. with the office of Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT), was part of the Presidential Internship program at the University of Utah where one of his many highlights was working during the 2020 Vice-Presidential Debate, and a local Internship in the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office. During his free time, he volunteers at the Huntsman Cancer Foundation to raise money towards cancer research, as well as being an active member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity here at the University of Utah. Alejandro’s plans after graduation are to either achieve a master’s degree in Foreign Relations and Counterterrorism or an International Law degree to further become an Ambassador to the United Nations or the United States in any country.

Our offices are located in the A. Ray Olpin Union Building in Ste. 248 (SLI) and Ste. 234 (ASUU), both in the Student Involvement Wing. our offices are open 8:00 am-5:00 pm Monday-Friday.
